Hope.
It may be
just a four-letter word, but it has so much meaning.
Merriam
Webster defines hope as:
- The feeling of wanting something to happen and
thinking that it could happen; a feeling that something good will happen
or be true
- The chance that something good will happen
- Someone or something that may be able to provide
help; someone or something that gives you a reason for hoping
When times
are challenging or feel difficult, you may feel as though “hope” is the only
thing that you have to hang on to.
On the
other side of the spectrum, hope also could signal great excitement that “hope”
is the thing that drives you forward – giving you inspiration and not just
comfort.
How do you
define hope? What are you hopeful for? What is your desire for a certain thing
to happen?

Something I love about the study of language is the way looking into another language's definition of a concept gives depth and perspective to a word.
In Spanish, the word for "hope" is also the word for "wait."
To me, this encourages me that hoping means that I need to be patient, but also expectant.
My hope is in something that will happen, rather than just a vague optimism. This grounds me, and helps me feel confident to build foundations under those castles in the air, as Thoreau said, as I wait.
I have hope for many things. But for me, hope needs to have more, or it just blows in the wind. I think it's a trio - hope, faith, and trust. Hope is about patience and peace. Faith is about believing. Trust is about relationships. There is an anonymous quote that says, "Faith begins with trust and trust begins with a hope. Hope in the unseen and of things to come, faith tells you everything will be alright."
When my Mom was sick with lung cancer, I remember my Aunt telling me that "with every breath, there is hope!" So true!
Hope is the foundation for us to go on, despite the challenges we faces...52 shots of radiation, chemotherapy, divorce...
Hope is the one thing that you should never take away from a patient and family. Sometimes it is the only thing they may have left.
To me, hope is the belief that anything is possible, especially in the darkest of times. I actually keep a saying about hope above my desk that I read at least once a day. It says, “Hope lives around every corner, behind every cloud, inside every failure. Believe in hope. Look for it and you’ll find it when you need it most.”
To me "HOPE" is such a beautiful word
Keeps me going forward in life
No matter what .....
to reach that wish to come true
